Kitchen Respray Transformation: How a New Colour Gave This High-End Kitchen a Completely Different Look

A professional kitchen respray can completely change the look of a high-quality kitchen without replacing the existing cabinetry. For this bespoke kitchen in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Elite Spray Tech transformed the original cream finish using Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue No. 281 in a 10% matt professional PU coating, while retaining the existing layout, worktops, appliances and flooring. The full kitchen respray took around 10 days, with removable doors prepared and sprayed in the workshop and fixed sections completed on site.

Kitchen Respray Transformation: How a New Colour Gave This High-End Kitchen a Completely Different Look

Sometimes the kitchen you inherit with a new home is exactly right in every way except one.

That was the situation for the homeowners of this property in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

Around a year after moving in, they still liked the layout, quality and craftsmanship of the kitchen, but the original cream finish was not what they would have chosen themselves.

It was a bespoke kitchen made by Holme Tree Bespoke Furniture in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, so replacing it simply to achieve a different colour would have meant removing something that was still extremely well suited to the room.

Instead, they contacted Elite Spray Tech to see how much of a transformation could be achieved by changing the finish alone.

Replacing a High-Quality Kitchen Just for a Different Colour Did Not Make Sense

The cupboards were sound. There were no significant repairs needed before we started, and the homeowners were happy to keep the kitchen itself.

Their issue was entirely visual.

Replacing a bespoke kitchen of this quality could potentially have meant spending around £40,000–£50,000 simply to arrive at a different finish.

Professional luxury kitchen respraying gave the homeowners another option: keep the cabinetry, layout and quality they already liked, and concentrate the investment on the part they actually wanted to change.

Kitchen Respray Colour Ideas

Seeing the Blue on Mock-Ups and Sprayed Samples Helped Turn an Idea Into the Final Choice

The homeowners already had blue in mind when we started discussing the new finish.

Rather than asking them to choose from a colour name alone, we showed them mock-up images of how the kitchen could potentially look and provided sprayed sample cards they could see properly.

After comparing the mock-ups and sample pieces, they chose Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue No. 281.

We finished it in a 10% matt professional PU coating, giving them the deep blue colour they wanted without introducing a high-shine finish.

Kitchen Respray Preparation

The Kitchen Was in Good Condition, So the Focus Was on Creating the Right Base for the New Finish

Unlike some respray projects, this kitchen did not uncover significant damage or repairs once work began.

We removed the doors and took them back to our workshop, where they were sanded, primed and spray painted on both sides.

Once sprayed, the doors were cured in the spray booth and checked for imperfections before being returned to the property.

There were no major repairs to deal with, but the doors still needed proper preparation before spraying.

Professional Kitchen Respray

The Doors Were Sprayed in the Workshop While the Fixed Parts Were Prepared and Finished at the Property

Once the doors had been removed for workshop spraying, we could concentrate on the parts of the kitchen that remained in place.

Before any on-site spraying began, we protected the surrounding room, including the walls, ceilings and floors.

The exterior of the fixed kitchen units was then sanded and sprayed to match the doors.

Once the spraying was complete, we also dealt with a few small areas where the existing wall paint had lifted during masking before leaving the room finished.

Kitchen Cupboard Colour Change

Stiffkey Blue Gave the Existing Kitchen a Stronger Look Without Changing What Already Worked

The finished photographs show just how much of the transformation came from the colour alone.

Stiffkey Blue creates a much stronger contrast with the pale worktops and flooring, while the metal handles stand out much more clearly against the deeper cabinetry.

The colour also gives greater definition to some of the kitchen’s strongest features, including the tall oven housing, the long run of cupboards and the large central island.

Nothing about the layout needed changing to make the room feel different. The same bespoke kitchen simply had a much stronger visual presence once the cream finish was replaced.

Kitchen Makeover Without Replacement

The Existing Kitchen Stayed, But the Colour Change Made It Feel Much More Like Their Own

They had inherited the kitchen, but they did not have to keep the previous colour.

That mattered even more here because this was not a standard kitchen that had reached the end of its life.

It was a bespoke installation that the homeowners still valued.

That meant retaining the existing:

  • Kitchen units and storage
  • Layout
  • Worktops
  • Appliances
  • Flooring
  • Overall structure of the room
  • The respray concentrated the transformation on the visible kitchen surfaces.

When the work was complete, the homeowners were over the moon with the result.

How Long Does Kitchen Respraying Take

This Colour Transformation Was Completed in Around 10 Days

The full project took around 10 days.

Part of the work took place away from the property, with the doors being prepared and sprayed in our workshop, while the fixed sections were completed on site.

The exact timescale for any kitchen will depend on its size, condition and the preparation required, but this project gives a useful example of what was involved for a substantial existing kitchen.
